Michel Goedert

Michel Goedert FRS, FMedSci is a Luxembourgish-British neuroscientist, and Head of Neurobiology, at Medical Research Council (UK). Born and raised in Luxembourg, after finishing his medicine studies at the University of Basel, 1986 he started working at the Medical Research Council Laboratory of Molecular Biology at the University of Cambridge. Awarded the Potamkin Prize in 1998 and the European Grand Prix for Research by the Foundation for Research on Alzheimer's disease in 2014. His work helped to elucidate the central roles played by microtubule-associated protein tau and the protein alpha-synuclein in the pathogenesis of a number of common neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease, progressive supranuclear palsy, Pick’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, dementia with Lewy bodies and multiple system atrophy.
